[edit] ACLU: Jail officials trim $1.7M demand for records
"The New Orleans criminal sheriff's office has trimmed a $1.7 million bill for public records that the American Civil Liberties Union hopes will shed light on the office's finances and prisoner deaths at the city's jail, an ACLU official said Wednesday.
Sheriff Marlin Gusman's office initially requested a deposit of more than $1.7 million for the records sought by the ACLU, but cut that amount to $1,007 following a yearlong negotiation, according to ACLU of Louisiana executive director Marjorie Esman."
