Main article: Evaluation of Virginia county websites

[edit] The good

  • Budgets,[1] comprehensive annual financial reports[2] and general annual reports[3] are available for the current and several previous years.
  • Names and contact information for administrative county officials,[4] as well as Board of Supervisors contact information and bios[5] are available.
  • Board meeting dates, agendas, minutes and reports are posted. Podcasts of the meetings are also available.[6]
  • The website offers various eGovernment services, including the ability to pay county taxes online.[7]
  • Information about accessing public records is posted.[8]

[edit] The bad

  • Terms of office for county officials are not posted online.
  • Current requests for bids and proposals from outside vendors are posted, as well as instructions for bidders, but there is no information about awarded contracts.
  • There appears to be no information about whether the county has any associations with lobbyists. However, the Virginia Association of Counties lists the county as a member.[9]
  • Information about FOIA requests is not easily accessible and there appears to be no record of FOIA compliance.
