Americans for Tax Reform is a Washington DC based non-profit lobbying organization and think tank. It was founded in 1985 by Grover Norquist at the suggestion of then President Ronald Reagan. ATR has, since 1986 presented law makers of every state in the nation with the state taxpayer protection pledge which reads: "I (name) pledge to the taxpayers of the (district #) district, of the state of (state), and to all the people of this state, that I will oppose and vote against any and all efforts to increase taxes."
The main goals of ATR is to bring relief to taxpayers and decrease government spending of taxpayer money.
Americans for Tax Reform is a sponsor of events related to the Chicago Tea Party.

The ATR website, Center for Fiscal Accountability, has a section devoted to giving citizens resources on government spending at both the state and federal levels. They also offer insights as to spending cuts the government could employ, thereby saving taxpayers' money.
