The League of Arizona Cities and Towns is a taxpayer-funded lobbying association in the state of Arizona. It was founded in 1937, then known as the Arizona Municipal League. It is represented by the National League of Cities.[1]

It is an affiliate of the National League of Cities.[2]

[edit] Purpose and history

The League believes in the ideas of "home rule" and "local determination", which mean that local decisions are best made by local decision makers and not by officials at some other level of government.[3]

The League was formed when the Arizona Legislature had the practice of not allowing elected city and town officials reasonable discretion in making decisions about their communities as a step toward getting more power at the local level.[3]
