Jon J. Barss, a former state work in Connecticut, plead guilty in the Norwich Superior Court to committing fourth-degree larceny for his role in the theft and sale of I-beams from the state Department of Transportations garage.
Attorney General Richard Blumenthal believes Barss pleaded guilty to the charge in order to avoid the recently enacted pension revocation law. "His plea today was designed largely to avoid loss of pension, and, hopefully, he will be the last employee to evade the consequences of this law," Blumenthal said.[1]

L. Mark Hurley, a former state prosecutor, also pleaded before the October 1st deadline. He was convicted of embezzling $85,000 from the courthouse where he worked for his union.[1]
