Mason vs Hoboken City Hall
In 2005 Beth Mason filed a lawsuit seeking information about municipal cell phone use records in Hoboken. She was inspired to file the lawsuit after reading a report showing that Hoboken spent at least $230,000 over a three year span in cell phones bills; substantially more than what nearby Union City paid over the same period.
In August of 2008, she and the city reached a settlement where Mason will receive partial access to the records she requested and $10,000 in legal fees. Due to concerns about privacy, one of the portions of the cell phone records exempt from disclosure will be the actual phone numbers - only area codes will be provided. [1]
