[edit] Superintendent contract

The School Board drew criticism after it approved a motion to extend current Superintendent Sharon Patterson’s contract through the 2010-11 school year, but refused to release the contract or it's terms to the public. Various reasons were cited for withholding the document, including the possibility of language changes and the fact that all parties had not yet signed it. As Patterson said “There is no contract prepared. There is no executed document.” Board member Gary Bechtel, who voted against the renewal, noted that a specific document was reviewed by the board.

Patterson's former contract shows that she was paid $177,687 with built-in 5 percent increases in 2007 and 2008, which does not include benefits. "According to the December Georgia Department of Audits and Accounts, Patterson earned $231,590, which includes both pay and benefits, in 2007-08." [1]
