Stimulus money is on to schools throughout Florida

[edit] Much needed dollars

Florida's school system, which had been debating massive cuts to their budget, was given a shot in the arm from President Barack Obama. According to the Orlando Sentinel[1], the U.S. Department of Education approved $1.8 billion in stimulus spending for Florida schools, with another $891 million possibly on the way before the end of 2009[2].

While Florida school officials are pleased with the influx of federal dollars, there is equally much concern about what happens two years from now when stimulus money isn't available. It could mean unfunded mandates years down the road, leaving the Florida School System in the same condition, if not worse, than it currently is now. [1]
