Buena Vista Township, New Jersey
From Sunshine Review
Buena Vista Township is a municipality in New Jersey. The pronunciation of "Buena" is oftentimes confusing to out-of-towners, as the locals say it "Bewna" rather than the more traditionally expected "Bwayna". Mayor Chuck Chiarello addresses this issue in more detail on the township's website.
[edit] Open Public Records Act lawsuit
Open records activist John Paff brought suit against 17 municipalities in Atlantic County alleging violations of the New Jersey Open Public Records Act. Specifically, he sought to ensure that municipalities were entering closed session of public meeting according to law, and to make sure that minutes of closed sessions are made available in accordance with the law.
Buena Vista Township settled the lawsuit with Paff. Terms of the settlement include giving more detail about what will be discussed in closed session before entering into it, and providing redacted versions of closed session minutes available at least two days prior to public hearings. [1]
