Teacher contracts

The FY 2012 salary schedule is posted and ranges from $33,740 for certain first year teachers to $69,295 for teachers with 30 years experience and a Doctorate degree.[10] No employees received COLA adjustments under the FY 2012 budget.[11]

Administrative officials

Dr. Nancy J. McGinley serves as Superintendent of the Charleston County School District (CCSD), where she oversees a Council of the Great City Schools system that includes 42,500 students, 75 schools, five specialized programs, and over 5,000 employees. Dr. McGinley is also a former award-winning principal and Chief Academic Officer.[12]

School budget

The FY 2012 budget estimated an operating millage levy of 98.7 mills and a debt service levy of 27.9 mills. Neither represents an increase over the previous year.[11]

Academic performance

CCSD's growth rating according to South Carolina Department of Education district report cards for the 2011 school year jumped from "Below Average" to "Excellent," and its absolute rating increased from "Average" to "Good." In 2011, the graduation rate increased from 67% to 72%.[13]

PASS (Palmetto Assessment of State Standards) 2009-2010

Spending transparency

On April 1, 2009, the South Carolina Legislature passed H3352 which requires school districts in the state to post a check register and credit card statement online.[16] All school districts are required to post monthly statements beginning June 30, 2010.

As of December 23, 2010 the district complies with the law.[17]
