The Chassell Township School District is located in Houghton County, Michigan. According to the Michigan Department of Education, for the 2006-07 school year the district served 282 students, making it the 642nd largest school district in the state.^[1]

Just prior to the 2008-09 school year, the Mackinac Center for Public Policy's "Show Michigan the Money" transparency project sent a request to the Chassell Township School District, asking that they place the district's check register online for public inspection. The district promptly responded to this request and began posting check registers by November 2008.
