Cibola County is one of
33 counties in
New Mexico. As of 2000, the population was 25,595. Its county seat is Grants. It is New Mexico's newest county, created on June 19, 1981, from the westernmost four-fifths of the formerly much larger Valencia County. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 4,542 square miles (11,763 km²), of which, 4,539 square miles (11,756 km²) of it is land and 2 square miles (6 km²) of it (0.06%) is water.
