Recent Issues

  • The school board recently approved an application for a gay-straight alliance club, but stipulated that as a non-curriculum based club it cannot meet during the school day. The ACLU intervened when it perceived that the application for the club was being delayed and says it will closely monitor the treatment of the club going forward.[9]
  • Clovis was cited for minor reporting compliance issues along with 14 other school districts after a state audit.[10]

During 2011-2012 school year employees that earn more than $20,000 a year will have to contribute 1.75% more to their retirement and health care contributions will rise to 0.917% to 0.833%.[11]

School Budget

The 2011-2012 school budget is $115,633,295 which is $11 million higher than in 2010-2011. Capital outlay is responsible for $39 million of the total budget in 2011-2012. The budget does not include a raise for employees and will be absorbing the salaries of 20 employees that was previously paid for with stimulus money.[14]

Academic performance

The district has not made Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) in the past two years which makes the district designated Corrective Action 2.

Out of all students, 52.90% were not proficient in math and 45.40% were not proficient in reading.[15]

The graduation rate for 2010-2011 was 71%.[16]
