[edit] Public records
Controversy arose in Colony when Mayor Morris Fitts refused to comply with an open records request from newspaper The Cullman Times. The Times was seeking financing information regarding restrooms that were built in the town's park. Fitts informed the paper that he would not turn over the public records without a court order. “You will have to talk to our lawyer,” he said. “I don’t know where y’all are coming from.” The Times is seeking the records to confirm or refute allegations that the town is $30,000 behind in payments to the bank for financing the public restrooms.
