[edit] Column: True leaders respect the laws
"I wondered what would happen when The Enquirer stripped this story across the top of Friday’s front page: “Enquirer sues to see applicants for CPS job.”
The school district’s scam is to skirt public records laws by asking applicants for the superintendent’s job to send résumés to a post office box – and school officials said they will not open the box until March 16. CPS’s logic, I think, is that résumés will then not have been “received” as public records until they are opened.
Why would The Enquirer not play along and wait a few days? Because we believe it’s illegal. And to be frank, if any entity in this community needs transparency in its deliberations and operations, it’s this school district."
