New York Committee on Open Government

The Committee on Open Government is an agency of the state of New York that is "responsible for overseeing and advising with regard to the Freedom of Information, Open Meetings and Personal Privacy Protection Laws."

Its responsibilities include:

  • Providing advisory opinions to any person and promulgating rules and regulations relative to procedural aspects of FOIL.
  • The Committee is required to submit a single comprehensive annual report to the Governor and the Legislature describing the Committee's experience under each of the statutes and recommendations for improving them.
