[edit] Mission Statement

“It is the mission of the Community Watchdog Project to abolish illegal immigration in the State of Connecticut, beginning with New Haven. We will work to identify corrupt, pandering, and law-breaking public officials, and will work tirelessly until our targets are voted out of office. Illegal immigration is the modern day slavery. CWP members and supporters are the modern day abolitionists who will not stop fighting until the exploitation of illegal immigrants at the hands of corrupt politicians and greedy employers ends entirely.”[1]

[edit] New Haven Residence ID Cards

New Haven inaugurated a program to give access to identification cards to individuals that would not otherwise be eligible for one, e.g. illegal aliens (nicknamed the Elm City ID Card). In response, Chris Powell and Dustin Gold launched the Community Watchdog Project and filed Freedom of Information requests for the names of all recipients of the ID cards. The Connecticut Freedom of Information Commission ruled that the state acted appropriately in withholding the information.[2] Community Watchdog Project has vowed to take the case to Superior Court, [3] and in the first week of September they filed an appeal against the CT FOIC. [4] The appeal was filed after the deadline though, and the FOIC has filed a motion for dismissal of the appeal. [5]

Chris Powell comments on the ruling that "government in Connecticut is full of other personally identifying public documents that could be useful to anyone seeking to do harm. Perhaps foremost among those documents is the state’s sex offender registry — about which, fortunately, Thomas has not yet been asked to make a “homeland security” judgment. For if people might be tempted to beat up illegal aliens, how much more tempted might they be to beat up sex offenders?" [6]
