The County Commissioners Association of Ohio (CCAO) is a taxpayer-funded lobbying association in Ohio. It is the Ohio chapter of the National Association of Counties.

CCAO represents the Boards of County Commissioners for 87 Ohio counties and the Summit County Executive and Council. The association was formed in 1880 "to promote the best practices and policies in the administration of county government for the benefit of Ohio residents." [1] They provide informational materials and legislative advocacy for county commissioners.

CCAO describe their 2009-2010 legislative priorities as:

  • Protecting Core Services in Human Services and Workforce Development
  • County Revenues and Budget Control
  • Indigent Defense
  • Elections Administration
  • Replacement of Tangible Personal Property Tax Revenue
  • Energy [2]

[edit] TANF Funds

The treasurer of the CCAO testified before the Health and Human Services Subcommittee in the Ohio House of Representatives against a reduction in the amount of federal Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) funds in March 2009. These funds go to county departments of Job and Family Services. The line item proposal would eliminate $62 million in funds to $0. The treasurer argued that the loss of TANF funds would hurt children and increase neglect and abuse of the elderly. The treasurer stated "that we, as an advanced society, are obligated to provide" a safety net for potential victims. [3]
