[edit] Superintendent controversy

Earl Pettit is the superintendent of the Douglas Unified School District. Three members of the DUSD board voted in September 2009 to hire a private investigator to examine Pettit's performance and conduct. Board President Chuck Hoyack has declined to provide records to local reporters that would illuminate the source of the board's concerns.[1]

KGUN TV-9 described the process it is going through to obtain records:

"We sent our original request to the "Custodian of Records." The person who responded, H.R. Director Mary Good, told us the records were not in her possession but that she'd informed Pettit and the board of our request. In an e-mail today, Good said Pettit had informed her that he had no records in his possession matching our request. Since 9 On Your Side has verified through other means that such record do exist, we challenged that statement. This led to a phone conversation with Pettit this afternoon in which he attributed the difficulties to miscommunication."
