[edit] Website evaluation

[edit] The good

  • On July 24, 2009 the Budget and Control Board launched a transparency website. It includes budget broken down by agency.[1]
  • Elected officials are listed with contact information.[2]
  • Administrative officials are listed with contact information in a searchable database.[3]
  • Audits are available.[4]
  • Information provided on state ethics commission.[5]
  • Includes some general information on lobbying.[6]
  • Tax information is provided.[7]

[edit] The bad

  • Site has a search function but is somewhat difficult to navigate.
  • Current state contracts are not available.
  • Some agencies have information about requesting public records[8], but there does not appear to be comprehensive information on the South Carolina Freedom of Information Act.
  • Does not provide information on state-paid lobbying, agency lobbying contracts, or list all registered lobbyists.
