[edit] Website evaluation

[edit] The good

  • Includes information on how to request records under the Texas Public Information Act.[1]
  • Information on state taxes is provided.[2]
  • Ethics commission information is provided.[3]
  • State contracts are available in a searchable database.[4]
  • Audit reports are published.[5]
  • Contact information for administrative and elected officials is available.[6]
  • Includes lobbyist lists and reports[7]

[edit] The bad

  • Site has a search function but is difficult to navigate.
  • Does not provide information on agency lobbying contracts. **This is actually not relevant in Texas since agencies are not permitted to lobby the Legislature per Texas Code Sec. 556.005. [1]**
  • Lots of budget documents and bills are available, but the full budget does not appear to be online.[8]
