The Farmington School District is located in Oakland County, Michigan. According to a Michigan Department of Education report, the district served 12,338 students for the 2006-07 school year, making it the 15th largest district in the state.^[1]

Just prior to the 2008-09 school year, the Mackinac Center for Public Policy's "Show Michigan the Money" transparency project sent a request to the Novi Community School District and every other school district in Oakland County that had not yet put their check register online for public inspection, asking them to do so. Farmington quickly and eagerly replied and granted this request.^[2]
