"Former Porter County Coroner John Evans should turn over records from his tenure now, before any court battle ensues.

Evans is holding on to what he says are personal notes taken during his time as coroner during the 1990s and early 2000s.

He cites two reasons, the first being that the records are his personal notes. And he also says he doesn't trust the way current Coroner Vicki Deppe is doing her job.

Neither reason holds water legally or ethically."
