Franklin County, Ohio is one of eighty-eight counties in Ohio. As of 2007, the population of the county is 1,118,107, making it the second largest county in Ohio (after Cuyahoga County) and the 34th largest county in population in the United States.
Its county seat is Columbus. Columbus is the largest city in Ohio and the 15th largest city in the United States. Columbus makes up about 66.56% of the population of the county. Franklin County itself, in 2000, made up about 9.42% of the population of Ohio.
The county was established on April 30, 1803, shortly after Ohio became a state, and was named after Benjamin Franklin.
