Governor Henry takes alleged illlegal contributions

Governor Brad Henry in Oklahoma has been accused of taking illegal funds from southeast Oklahoma businessman Steve Phipps. Phipps, after agreeing to a plea agreement, has said that he funneled more than $70,000 to Henry using "straw donors."

Straw donors are those that contribute money that is not theirs under their name to a campaign fund.

[edit] State Auditor's involvement

Ex State Auditor, Jeff McMahan, and his wife are also facing nine felony charges for taking the money in exchange government favors. Phipps says he diverted $157, 882 to McMahan's 2002 campaign a blast.

As a result of the bad press, Henry is contributing $35,000 in campaign funds for the USS Oklahoma memorial at Peal Harbor, Hawaii, Oklahoma and the National Guard relief fund.
