[edit] It's YOUR government, so keep it open
"“Sunshine Week” is March 15-22 and yes, we are hoping that means good weather for Michigan, but its real purpose as ordained by a number of national organizations, including much of the “mainstream media” is to remind citizens about the importance of open government. Let the sunshine in, or, as U.S. Appeals Court Judge Damon Keith said so well in a 2002 ruling, “Democracy dies behind closed doors.”
People who work in government don’t own it. They are just temporary custodians of something that belongs to the public. “Sunshine Week” serves to remind public officials of that and to make sure the people know about their authority as citizens to obtain public information."
