Jim Dunnam is a Texas state House member who has proposed requiring the Texas Ethics Commission to post online the personal financial disclosure statements filed by Texas legislators, other state government officials and some local officials.

[edit] Ethics reform

In the 81st legislative session, Dunnam is the sponsor of House Bill 2496, which would require the Ethics Commission to post the forms online.[1] Current Texas law requires the Ethics Commission to collect identifying information from everyone who requests to see the forms, and the Ethics Commission has interpreted that law to prevent it from posting the forms on its own Web site.[2] In 2008, the online newspaper Texas Watchdog procured from the Ethics Commission all 181 lawmakers' forms, along with those of several other state officials, and published them online.[3]

[edit] Career history

Dunnam is from Waco and represents House District 57, which includes Falls, Leon, Madison and Robertson counties, along with all of McLennan County.[4]

He is a Democrat and has been leader of the state House Democratic Caucus since 2003.[5]

Aside from his work as a legislator, he is an attorney with the Waco law firm of Dunnam and Dunnam. He is a 1987 alumnus of Baylor University law school, and received a bachelor's degree in business administration from Baylor in 1986. He and his wife, Michelle, have three children, Rachel, Mason and Lauren.[6]
