Governor Bobby Jindal's secretary of economic development, Stephen Moret, has been found to have violated state ethics law before he joined Jindal's Cabinet. Determined to have failed to properly register as a lobbyist, Moret has agreed to pay $1,200.[1]

[edit] Ethics violation

The state Board of Ethics determined that, while serving as president and chief executive officer of the Baton Rouge Chamber of Commerce, Moret took part in lobbying activities which required him to register as a lobbyist.

Moret admitted the mistake, signing an agreement with the Ethics Board. He explained that he did not believe he needed to register as a lobbying, citing information from the ethics administration website that had not been properly updated.

During 2006 and 2007, Moret engaged in lobbying lawmakers, mostly in an attempt to get a new ethics law passed.[1]
