Johannes Feddema

Johannes Feddema is an appointed member of the KEEP Commission. The KEEP commission was established in May 2008 by an executive order of governor Kathleen Sebelius. The stated purpose of the commission is to develop "recommendations to the Governor to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in Kansas."
Feddema is a geography professor at Kansas University. In spring 2008, he spoke against a bill to build a coal plant in Kansas, saying that decision-makers in the state legislature are influenced by financial pressures and won’t live to see the long-term damage of their vote. "It is the young people, the students and their children, that will have to deal with the impact of these decisions. Eleven million tons of carbon dioxide over the next 50 years, which is the average life-span of one of these plants. You do the math."[1]
On being appointed to serve on the commission, Feddema said, "I’m honored to have been selected to KEEP. I believe KEEP represents a positive step in facing the potential challenges posed by climate and environmental change on the Kansas environment and economy."
