[edit] Public records response
Jordan-Elbridge High School Principal David Zehner filed a lawsuit against Jordan-Elbridge Central School District alleging that the appointment of the new superintendent was made behind closed doors.[10] Zehner says that the appointment didn't comply with the Open Meetings Law, wasn't open to public discussion, and wasn't subject to a vote.[10] Some of this evidence comes from a newsletter sent out to the school district which read, "the board has decided to appoint as interim superintendent Ms. Sue Gorton, effective Nov. 1, 2010." The school district had two months to correct the wording and chose not to.
The school district has also been criticized by the local paper for turning down public records requests for Superintendent Marilyn Dominick, who is quitting two years prior to her contract being finished, severance agreement.[11] Dominick turned down the request, despite the conflict of interest, stating that the matter was "private." The newspaper contends that public funds means public information.[11]
