Kalawao County is one of 5 counties in Hawaii. Kalawao County is on the island of Molokai. The county does not have a county government, with the exception of a sheriff who is selected from local residents by the State Department of Health, which administers the county. Kalawao County has the second smallest population of any county in the U.S. When ranked by median household income, Kalawao County is the poorest county in the entire United States.
