[edit] Lawsuit develops in records fight

"After months of allegations of impropriety in the Harlem Township Supervisor race, Winnebago County Board member Kay Mullins filed a lawsuit against fellow board member and Township Supervisor Doug Aurand.

The filing is the latest in what has become a highly contentious fight over public records that, depending on whom you talk to, has everything to do with next week’s election or nothing to do with it at all.

At issue are thousands of Harlem Township documents — invoices, meeting minutes and credit card statements — that Mullins wants to inspect to see how the township has been spending its money but, she says, the township won’t release them."
