The League of California Cities is a taxpayer-funded lobbying association in California. It is represented by the National League of Cities.[1]

The League of California Cities is a taxpayer-funded lobbying association. According to a Pacific Research Institute study, the group is funded in whole or in part by taxpayer dollars, in the form of membership dues paid by local governments.[2]

In the face of the state budget crisis of 2009, state lawmakers planned to transfer $1.7 billion out of the highway users/gasoline tax fund into the state's general fund that normally goes to municipalities to maintain local streets and roads.[3]

In June 2009, the league's board of directors unanimously voted to initiate legal proceedings to challenge the constitutionality of what it refers to as the "gas tax raid."[3]

After the salaries in Bell, California were revealed, the organization is working to draft legislation that would require local government to post salary and pension information online.[4]
