Lobbying in DuPage County, Illinois
The county has spent at least $1,819,999.96 on lobbying since 2005.Taxpayer-funded lobbying is the use of public funds by governments to influence other levels of government. Counties, for example, will pay lobbyists to influence the state or the federal government. This type of lobbying is often not disclosed to constituents. Counties hire lobbyists on a contractual basis, have lobbyists on staff, or join groups which promote or oppose legislation on their behalf. Lobbyists also help counties seeking specific projects or appropriations.

McGuire Woods Consulting represents the DuPage County Health Department before the executive branch of Illinois.[1] The lobbyists represent the Health Department before the Illinois Executive Branch, which includes the governor.
Hadfield Consulting represents the whole of DuPage County before the state of Illinois. It is unclear what the county's justifications are for this relationship, as its contract does not lay out the goals of a consultant and why the county needs them.[2] Greenberg Traurig is an employee of Hadfield Consulting. V. A. Persico Consulting also represents the county of DuPage.[4] It represents the county before state offices and agencies.[5]
Fletcher, Topol, Obrien and Kasper also represents the county before state agencies.[6]
According to the Illinois Campaign for Political Reform, the DuPage County Election Commission had a contract with Sorling, Northrup, Hanna, Cullen & Cochran for $36,000 in 2009. That same year, the DuPage County State’s Attorney had a contract with Marquardt, Roger C. & Company for $36,000. [7]

The firm represents the county before the federal government.

In 2008, DuPage County reported $80,000 spent on federal lobbying. [13]
BGR Government Affairs represents the county for 2010 at a yearly fee of $96,000.[14] The lobbyist represents the county in Washington, D.C.
