Louisiana 2008 Transparency Legislation

In 2007 Governor Elect Bobby Jindal set as a major project for his term in office to overall the transparency and accountability in Louisiana. In January of 2008 he passed his first two executive orders towards this project and since then has worked with the legislature to develop new legislation and programs to further this cause.

Executive Orders

Governor Bobby Jindal passed two important Executive orders on transparency, accountability and generl ethics at the start of his term. Executive Orders apply only to those employees in the executive branch of state legislature.


  • Louisiana Executive Order BJ 2008-1 was passed on January 15th 2008 and focuses on Financial disclosures for Cabinet members and ethics training for all members of the executive branch.


Legislations

The following Bills were passed during the special legislative session held from Febraury 10th to Febraury 26th on ethics reform.

House Bills

  • Louisiana House Bill 1 (2008): Personal Financial Disclosures concentrates on expanding which government officials need to publish financial disclosures.
  • Louisiana House Bill 6 (2008) : Ethics Training concentrates on how often government officials have to take ethics training and financial disclosure training.
