Senate Bill 37 (S.B. 37) will require the commissioner of administration to create and maintain a website to report state spending and related matters by January 1, 2009. Sponsored by Sen. Joel Chiasson, the bill was signed by Governor Bobby Jindal on March 10, 2008.

[edit] Duties of Commissioner

The website that must be created will post reports of state spending. The reports must include the nature and amount of appropriations for the executive branch, annual salaries and total compensation of statewide elected officials, and cabinet level positions. A monthly report will be created and published on the spending of every budget unit. The commissioner of administration will consult with the Joint Legislative Committee on the Budget to develop the database for the website.

The secretary or executive head of each state office, department, board, commission or institution will fully cooperate with the commissioner of administration in providing information for this database. The first reports for this database must be online by January 1st 2009. [1]
