[edit] Open records lawsuit

The city of Mesa was found to have violated the Washington Public Records Act by failing to turn over requested public documents within a reasonable amount of time to requestor, and former mayor, Donna Zink. Judge William Acey ordered penalties of $167,000 paid to Zink as well as attorney fees and court costs that bring the entire amount owed to $246,000. This amount is a quarter of the total annual budget of Mesa, and town leaders are considering bankruptcy. Zink says about the possibility of bankruptcy: "I don't feel that I caused this to happen. I think they caused it to happen. They should've given me the records." [1] [2]
