The Milwaukee County GASP Database is sponsored by Citizens for Responsible Government (CRG), a Wisconsin-based group.
GASP stands for "Government Accountability in Spending Project". It is "an effort to publish all government spending in the State of Wisconsin in a series of online, searchable databases known as the Government Accountability in Spending Project (GASP). It is our hope that by making it easier for average citizens to track government spending."
The Milwaukee County database, the first of what GASP and CRG hope will be many similar projects, was started in 2008. It contains over 188,000 payment records obtained from Milwaukee County covering a two year period. The database is updated quarterly. The database does not contain information that would violate HIPPA and other privacy laws or payments made related to pending legal action.
