The district is currently stalling on making a response to an open records request for copies of credit card statements and other records related to a recent audit of the district from newspaper The News-Star. The deadline for a response to The News-Star's request was February 6, 2009 at 10:45 a.m. No response was receive until 4:04 p.m. that day, and it consisted of a statement that the request could not be fully complied with until March of 2009. As newspaper Executive Editor Kathy Spurlock put it: "[Superintendent] Dr. Dupree's response is a non-response, a delaying tactic that will only continue to cost the taxpayers of the city of Monroe needless legal expense and further erode the public's confidence in the school system's management." [9] As of February 25, 2009, the district is still postponing the release of requested documents. [10]

The week of February 14, 2009 the school board instructed Superintendent Dupree to comply with the requests for records. The school board also admitted that they had not been aware any documents had been requested at all. [11]

Reporter Barbara Leader has filed a criminal complaint against Superintendent Dupree, claiming that he has repeatedly violated the Open Records Act by failing to respond to requests for records in a timely manner. [12]

Documents were released showing that Dupree spent just over $3,400 in 2008 on his district issued credit card for meals, gifts and travel. [13]
