The New Mexico Auditor has launched a fraud/abuse hotline to report on the behavior of every level of government in New Mexico from counties to school districts.

State Auditor Hector Balderas said the hotline, at 1-866-OSA-FRAUD, could help stem the sort of financial scandals that have plagued New Mexico in recent years.

Balderas office's special investigation division, which recently added two staffers for a total of eight, to look into the complaints. The hotline is being operated under a $25,000-a-year contract by The Network, a technology-based company that has services including hotlines, insurance claim reporting and employee communications.[1]

Past State Auditors

Two former state treasurers, Michael Montoya and Robert Vigil, are serving federal prison sentences for their roles in what prosecutors said was a pay-to-play scheme involving extortion and kickbacks for state contracts and investments.[1]
