The budget is not posted online, however they replied quickly and accurately to an open-records request made regarding the allocation of certain funds. In recent years, they have attempted to outsource and privitize aspects of their city services if it was to the financial benefit of the taxpayers.
In response to an open records request, the city of Newton has 13 city employee's whose pay and annual benefits package exceeds $75,000. This number is significantly lower than that of larger cities like Overland Park, Olathe and even Hays, Kansas who all claim that each city employee makes over $75,000 annually. Wyandotte County Unified government (Kansas City, Kansas)has about 130 employees who make over $75,000 annually before benefits were calculated in the salary.
