The first step to becoming involved is to visit the Sign up page and sign up to represent your county.
To do this just log in, click on the edit tab and place your name next to your county's name after the "||" marks. Click "Save page" and you're done.
[edit] How to present the idea to your county
There are several ways you can approach you're county officials for more transparency.
- Call your county commissioners. Ask them what they are doing to further transparent government. Make sure to ask specific questions about publishing the transparency checklist items on their website. You can also check out how your county rated before calling.
- Write or e-mail your county commissioners asking them to sign the transparency pledge; present language that would put a transparent government website in place or commit the entire commission to transparency.
- Show up at a council meeting and it put it before other residents of the county.
[edit] Reporting on it
In order to report on what your county said first make sure that you log in to Sunshine Review. Then go to the Open Illinois Counties project page and click on the "Edit" tab.
- Find your county and start filling in the where the "-" are between "||" with what your county said about transparency.
- Hint: Click on "Edit" for your browser and then "Find." Type your county name in and you should see it on the first or second try.
- These dashes go in line with the headings at the top of the chart under County, Commissioner(s), The Transparency Pledge, Transparency checklist, and any comments you'd like to add.
Suggested comments would be something along the line of if "they committed to a time line" or "wouldn't even take my calls". Also under comments make sure to type ~~~~ so we know who met with the commissioners.
- For the transparency pledge and transparency checklist you can type {{yes}} or {{no}} depending on your commissioners response.
- Finally, click "Save Page" and you're done!
