Open South Dakota is a website which reviews state government spending, current salaries of individual state employees, financial documents, vendor information, and listings of job classifications. The site provides information for over 380,000 financial entries.

The site was sponsored by Governor Mike Rounds. However in January of 2008, House Representative Hal Wick proposed similar legislation. The legislation passed in both the house and senate, only to be vetoed by Governor Mike Rounds in March. Even then, the house still overrode the veto, although the senate did not.[1]

Senate Bills 143 and 144 have been proposed by Sen. Jason Gant (R-Sioux Falls) in 2009. SB 143 seeks to seeks to require that Open SD's operation be continued. SB 144 seeks to require all state contracts involving the expenditure of money be posted on the Open SD website. [2]
