[edit] Pay cuts proposed for top Michigan officials

"It won't happen until 2011. Still, a state panel approved a 10% pay cut Monday for the governor, state legislators, attorney general and secretary of state.

The State Officers Compensation Commission (SOCC) voted 4-1 for a salary cut that Gov. Jennifer Granholm and the state House requested to acknowledge the state's economic difficulties.

The pay cuts are a largely symbolic gesture that will save the state less than $1.5 million in 2011. That's one 1/1000 -- or .1% -- of the state's potential budget deficit in 2010."
