[edit] Public's Right To Know Once Again At Stake

"The state's budget problems are so severe that they rightfully occupy center stage. But lost in the tumult and shouting about economic issues are more attempts to weaken the state's Freedom of Information Act. This is the law that defines what everyday citizens are entitled to know about their government's activities, so any attempt to dilute the statutes is serious business.

At least 17 separate bills making their way through the General Assembly seek to diminish the public's right to know details about government and impose new limitations on openness. If enacted, these changes would increase secrecy and harm the public."
