[edit] Public records held hostage, week two
"Public records? What's that?
This is apparently the stance of our county government.
For several weeks now, we have been trying to gain access to the list of assisted voters for the 2008 election. And for those several weeks we have been met with resistance on several different levels.
Most recently, County Clerk Donald Whitten decided he had other things to do than to travel to the courthouse at the time we had scheduled to view the records. His failure to show up meant that the room containing the information could not be opened.
At least that is the story we were fed."
