Unions
Teachers in the District are represented by the Sachem Central Teachers Association. In total, the SCTA represents 1,273 teachers, 129 teaching assistants, and 116 teacher aides.[10] The SCTA is an affiliate of the New York State United Teachers organization.
School Budget
The District's 2011-2012 budget contains total expenditures of $287,834,125, an increase of 2.03% from the previous year. Of that total, $25,427,921 is dedicated to Administration, $220,722,218 for Programs, and $41,683,986 for Capital.[11] The year's budget is balanced, albeit with $2,910,000 being used from the District's reserve fund.[12]
In September, 2011, the District was granted a $1.5 million Federal physical education grant. It will receive $540,000 in the first year of the grant, and was one of only 76 grant winners throughout the country. Grants were awarded to districts that had implemented successful programs to help students make progress in reaching state physical education standards.[13]
Academic performance
The New York State Report Cards for the 2009-2010 school year give Sachem Central an overall rating of being in "Good Standing." The District has high marks in the four categories of English Language Arts, Math, Science, and Graduation Rate. All eighteen district schools received similar marks individually.[14]
