The South Suburban Mayors & Managers Association has lobbying representation from Anderson Legislative Consulting.[1] Local governments pay dues to belong to the association (see "Membership" section).
[edit] Role
Trustees of Flossmoor, Illinois approved an amendment that will reduce the amount of federal stimulus money allotted by the South Suburban Mayors and Managers Association for resurfacing a stretch of Flossmoor Road. The association plays a real role in the administration of federal money.[2] The association requested each of its member towns that received more stimulus money than was needed for a specific project approve amendments to free up American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funds for use by other towns.
Oak Forest worked with the South Suburban Mayors and Managers Association to attempt to secure a $200,000 grant from the federal government to assess the site of a construction project.[3]

[edit] Issues
The association comments on issues that affect member areas. When a car dealership closed, the executive director of the association noted that the closings will have a severe impact on the south suburban area.[7]
Leaders in the organization also comment on projects in the south suburban Chicago area. The organization's executive director has a positive view of a proposed highway that would connect parts of Illinois with parts of Indiana, the Illiana Expressway.[8]
[edit] Meetings
Association meetings deal with topics that include the Chicago Southland Economic Development Corporation, a permanent site for a PADS shelter and the South Suburban Housing Collaborative's joint application to the State of Illinois seeking funds for the Federal Neighborhood Stabilization Program.[9]
[edit] Affiliates
The association partnered with South Suburban Mayors and Managers Association, Chicago Southland Economic Development Corporation, and the Metropolitan Planning Council to sponsor the Charter One Workforce Housing Initiative. The initiative is a program that asks employers or local communities to offer five-year forgivable loans to employees to help them buy homes near the business or near public transportation, or any other criteria the employer deems important.[10]
