[edit] State Senate bill would eliminate Sunshine Committee
"Open government advocates are worried about a bill in the state Senate that would eliminate the committee charged with cleaning up loopholes in the state's open records law.
The bill was introduced by Sen. Darlene Fairley, D-Lake Forest Park, last week. Fairley claims the committee should be axed because it hasn't been productive and is wasting resources in the Attorney General's office.
Attorney General Rob McKenna asked for the Sunshine Committee's formation in 2007 to expand the public's access to government information by reviewing the hundreds of exemptions that have been added to the public records law."
