  15  In Yousoufian v. Office of Ron Sims, the Washington State Supreme Court says that King County, Washington should pay a bigger fine for its "egregious" violations of the Washington Public Records Act.
  16  Montana State Senator Joe Balyeat introduced the Taxpayer Right to Know Act.[1]

  1  OCPA says that Oklahoma is understating per-pupil cost of education in the state by about $4,000 per student; calls on government for more transparent accounting.
  2  Utah Senate Bill 18 was voted out of the Utah State Senate on a 29-0 vote.
  2  Ron Sims, who was county executive of King County, Washington during the time that the Washington State Supreme Court says the county committed "egregious" violations of the Washington Public Records Act, is appointed by President Obama to serve as Deputy Director of the Department of Housing and Urban Development.
  2  The South Carolina Policy Council calls for an end to taxpayer-funded lobbying.
  3  Colorado state senator Ted Harvey tells rally, If you can't defend it, don't spend it in response to watering-down of Colorado Senate Bill 57, 2009.
  3  Grace Caporuscio becomes Sunshine Troublemaker of the Week #40 for shining light on Chippewa Valley Schools, Michigan.
  5  The New Orleans city council will discuss legislation to require that the City's competitive selection process for professional service contracts be subject to Louisiana Open Meetings Law.[3]
  5  Mayor Cheye Calvo of Berwyn Heights, Maryland visits the state legislature to lobby for a bill to require police swat teams to report on their activities.

  10  An expose in the Sacramento Bee shows that Los Angeles County spent $3.7 million from 2007-2008 to employ eight lobbyists and to contract separately with five lobbying firms to influence the California legislature.[5]
  11  The volunteer fire chief and a firefighter are fired by Delaware Township, Iowa officials for filing an Iowa Open Records Law document request.
  12  A public meeting of the State Records Committee is scheduled at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, February 12 in the Courtyard Meeting Room, State Archives Building, 346 South Rio Grande Street (450 West), Salt Lake City. [6]
  17  Orleans Parish Civil Court Judge Rose Ledet orders the Ray Nagin administration to immediately halt its practice of destroying email in violation of the Louisiana Public Records Act.

  25  The Washington Coalition for Open Government is presenting a panel and forum on the Washington Public Records Act from 6:30 to 8:30 PM on Wednesday, February 25 at the Camas Public Library, 625 NE Fourth Ave. in Camas. [8]

  11  The CT FOIC will make it's final decision on whether Winsted, Connecticut is in violation of the Connecticut Freedom of Information Act.
  13   The Louisiana state budget will need approval due to the economic crisis.
  15-21  Sunshine Week.
  16  The board members of Cincinnati Public Schools, Ohio will retrieve superintendent resumes from a P.O. Box in Corryville where they're being stashed to avoid disclosure of applicant names under the Ohio Open Records Law.
  16  The Minnesota Coalition on Government Information hosts a Freedom of Information Day event at the Minneapolis Central Library.
  18  The ACLU, the Ohio Newspaper Association and other Ohio advocacy groups are offering an open records workshop on Wednesday, March 18, at 3:00 pm in the Metropolitan Library auditorium at 96 South Grant Avenue in Columbus, Ohio. [9]
  19  Attorney General Eric Holder announced new guidelines for federal departments and agencies handling Freedom of Information Act requests. The new guidelines push for "a presumption of disclosure," a dramatic reversal from the Bush administration's strict hold on information.[10]

  20  Wheaton Warrenville Unit District 200 v. Stern brought to Illinois Supreme Court.
  20  Complaint filed alleging that Onalaska, Wisconsin township officials violated Wisconsin's open meeting laws.
  20  Norwegian Township, Pennsylvania becomes first government agency in Pennsylvania to file an appeal of a ruling of the Pennsylvania Office of Open Records.
  24  Gainesville Times files a lawsuit against Gainesville, Georgia alleging that the city is violating the Georgia Open Records Act.
  30  Louisiana judge Janice Clark rules that two Louisiana state agencies displayed "deliberate indifference" and "ineptitude" in responding to requests for records under the Louisiana Public Records Act.[11]
  30  The Pennsylvania Office of Open Records rules that the Northampton Area School District, Pennsylvania can redact budget figures from its 2009-2010 budget document under a "pre-decisional deliberative information" exemption.
  30  South Dakota Governor Mike Rounds signed SB 143, SB 144 and SB 147 into law.
  TBA  The Radnor Township School District, Pennsylvania will have a board meeting and discuss the Sherry Right to Know case.[12]
